Rowan’s stage costume

This goes way way back to very beginning, over 20 years ago. Rowan was the first character I created, and originally, the stories were meant to be about him and knife-throwing act. The costume he wears was very Jhonen Vasquez meets Tim Burton, with a burgundy swallowtail jacket, torn black shorts, black and white striped nylons and knee-high Doc Martens.

When I started writing the stories, I wanted to give him a more modern, more stylish look but just couldn’t tear myself away from the original outfit, so it stayed.

The illustrations below are some of the very first I ever did, depicting Gideon and Daryl as well. I spent ages carefully inking them, filling in the black with a paintbrush and ink. My drawing skills have come a long way since then, and Rowan now looks much better, sleeker.
